FAQs

Why have you made improvements to select SPD™ Slow Cooked recipes?

We made improvements to the SPD™ Slow Cooked Puppy Lamb & Blueberry, SPD™ Slow Cooked Lamb & Rosemary, SPD™ Slow Cooked Salmon & Pumpkin, and SPD™ Slow Cooked Duck & Sweet Potato recipes to improve digestibility and texture in response to feedback from pet parents that these recipes contained too much broth.

Our recipes that already include quinoa did not receive the same feedback, so we focused on enhancing only these four proteins.

Have there been any changes to product claims?

No, all product claims and suitability remain unchanged. If you have specific health concerns about your dog's diet, please consult your veterinarian.

What is quinoa, and what are its benefits?

Quinoa is a gluten-free seed commonly mistaken for a grain. It's a highly nutritious superfood, offering a source of protein, carbohydrates, essential vitamins, minerals, and fibre, making it a beneficial ingredient to your dog's diet.

Quinoa supports digestive health and provides a hypoallergenic carbohydrate option for dogs with grain sensitivities.

Has quinoa been added as a cheap filler?

Not at all! Quinoa is included at a low rate (around 4%) specifically to improve the texture and consistency of our recipes. Unlike other common ingredients found in pet food that are considered “fillers”, quinoa offers real nutritional benefits, including protein, fibre, carbohydrates and essential vitamins and minerals. Its inclusion aligns with our ingredients with purpose philosophy where every ingredient has a specific benefit for dogs.

Why are carbohydrates essential in my dog's diet?

Carbohydrates are vital in a balanced diet, serving as a primary source of energy for the body. They play a key role in energy metabolism, ensuring that cells function efficiently.

Additionally, carbohydrates contribute to gastrointestinal health by supporting a diverse gut microbiota, which is crucial for digestion and overall well-being.

Quinoa is considered a "complex carbohydrate," meaning it provides a richer source of nutrients compared to simple carbohydrates.

Have you made any changes to the SPD™ Fresh Rolls?

No, there have been no changes to the SPD™ Fresh Rolls.

What SPD™ Slow Cooked diets include quinoa?

Quinoa has always been part of the recipe in many of our SPD™ Slow Cooked diets. We've added quinoa to a few more favourites with our recent improvements.

What remains the same?

Our SPD™ Slow Cooked diets are still made with fresh ingredients in Melbourne, Australia.

Prime100 remains 100% Australian-made, and all our recipes continue to meet AAFCO nutritional standards, ensuring balanced and complete meals for your dog.

Can quinoa cause allergies in dogs?

Quinoa is generally well-tolerated and less likely to trigger food sensitivities than grains. It is a safe choice for most dogs, even those with sensitive stomachs.

Is a transition period required?

A transition is generally not required as the inclusion rate of quinoa is very low. If your dog is particularly sensitive, or hasn't eaten quinoa before, you may wish to gradually introduce the food to their diet.

Are your SPD™ Slow Cooked diets all still Single Protein?

Yes, all SPD™ Slow Cooked diets continue to use a single source of animal protein. They remain suitable for daily feeding and food elimination trials.
