Inspired by the popular human dish, Master Bowie's Doggy Poke Bowl features a nutritious blend of ingredients tailored to meet your dog's dietary needs. Treat your pup to a flavourful and colourful feast!

Why feed the rainbow?

Feeding your dog a variety of fruits and vegetables on rotation is important because these foods are rich in phytonutrients, which support your dog's immune system, promote health and prevent chronic diseases. Whenever possible, always opt for organic, in-season fresh produce, or you can grow your own!

Here are a few examples of fruits and vegetables you can safely feed your dog.

Red: Red Capsicum, Ripe Tomato, Strawberries, Raspberries, Cranberries, Red Apple, Watermelon.

Orange/Yellow: Carrot, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin, Mango, Banana, Rockmelon.

Green: Broccoli, Green Capsicum, Kale, Asian Greens, Baby Spinach, Zucchini, Cucumber, Kiwifruit, Avocado, Green Apple.

Blue/Purple: Blueberries, Red Cabbage, Beetroot.

Brown/White: Cauliflower, Mushrooms, Bean Sprouts, Parsnip, Brown Pear.

Since dogs lack the enzyme cellulase, preparing plant matter is essential to maximise digestion and nutrient absorption. This can include blending raw vegetables or lightly steaming them before feeding. Starchy carbohydrates should always be cooked before feeding to ensure they are easily digestible.

How to make Master Bowie's Poke Bowl
  1. Gather your vegetables and wash them under cool running water.
  1. Finely chop the vegetables if you feed them raw or steam them to make them more bioavailable for dogs. Cook the mushrooms to break down the thick cell walls and kill all the harmful pathogens. Leave the fruits raw.
  1. In a pot of boiling water, gently place the egg and boil on medium-high heat for 6–8 minutes for a soft-boiled egg. You can also feed the egg raw if your dog is used to it.
  1. Gather all the elements ready for assembly.
  1. In a bowl, place the SPD Slow Cooked Duck & Sweet Potato and SPD Air Dried Duck & Sweet Potato, and top them with the vegetables and fruits. Cut the egg into halves and place one half or both.
  1. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve to your lucky pooch. Bowie's Poke Bowl is served with sweet pepper-spiced natural Greek yoghurt.

Note: Introduce new ingredients slowly and monitor your dog's reaction. If you are unsure, please consult with your veterinarian. Always have fresh water available.

This recipe is suitable to feed as a meal for a 20kg dog. If you use a different protein than the one I've used, please follow the feeding guidelines specified on the product packaging.
